As mentioned on Wednesday night, the legislature is taking a two week break (actually, 2 1/2 weeks) to deal with the FY 2011 budget. They’ll reconvene on March 9th.

The Georgia General Assembly is back in session today. By the end of the week, we’ll be at the half way point.

The amended FY 2010 budget cleared the House this morning by a vote of 122 to 44 (an unusually high number of “no” votes for the budget).
The budget now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is chaired by Sen. Jack Hill.

The amended FY 2010 budget was passed out of the House Appropriations Committee this morning by a vote of 53 to 5. The budget, originally passed last year, needed $1.2 billion in cuts to meet revenue estimates set by the Governor’s office.
It’ll be on the floor tomorrow for vote by the House.

The word coming from the Gold Dome is that House leaders will bring the amended FY 2010 budget to the floor next week. The House (likely the Senate as well) will be in session Monday through Thursday, so it could be any day, though I put my money on Wednesday or Thursday.

State Rep. Tom Graves (R-Ranger) and Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers will push the JOBS Act again this year. Similar legislation was presented and passed last year, but was vetoed by Gov. Sonny Perdue.
