Budget bill passes State House
Governor Perdue’s $19.4 billion budget sailed through the State House today:
The Georgia House of Representatives passed its version of the state’s 2007 amended budget this afternoon.
The budget, which passed 171-1, now heads to the Senate for more tinkering and an eventual vote.
The amended budget includes new funding for PeachCare, the state’s insurance program for children, money for disaster relief in the tornado-ravaged Americus area, money for the Tour de Georgia bicycle race, millions in new school funding and more money to repave roads.

The 2007 amended budget makes changes to the already existing state budget for this fiscal year, which ends June 30. With the changes, the budget totals about $19.4 billion in state money, and more than $36 billion once federal pass-throughs are factored in.
House members are also working on Gov. Sonny Perdue’s proposed fiscal 2008 budget, which the House is expected to vote on next week.
State Rep. Steve Davis, R-McDonough, cast the only vote against the 2007 amended budget.
