J.B. Powell to run for Ag Commissioner?
We got word today that Sen. J.B. Powell (D-Augusta) is considering a run to succeed Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin (D).
Before the session one of the names often floated on the Democratic side of the aisle to run was former House Speaker Terry Coleman (D), who currently serves as Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture. Rep. Alan Powell (D-Hartwell) was also mentioned frequently.
Powell’s potential entrance would be significant. He is generally considered to be an old school conservative Democrat (think Zell Miller circa 1992) and may pose problems for the Republican nominee, likely to be Gary Black.

Alan Powell will not run. He has no chance state wide.
