SOS appointment means another special election

With Gov. Sonny Perdue’s appointment of Rep. Jim Cole (R-Forsyth) to serve out Karen Handel’s term as Secretary of State, a special election (yes, another one) will likely put in motion in the next week or two.
Cole, who will seek a full term as Secretary of State in 2010, represented HD-125.

Rasmussen: Barnes inches closer to 50%

Rasmussen has released new polling for the Democratic primary for Governor of Georgia. Much like the GOP poll, not much has changed, except that Roy Barnes is moving closer 50%.

No doubt Georgia Republicans are glad to have this drama behind them, at least for now, as the House Republican Caucus nominated three legislators to lead them into the 2010 session of the Georgia General Assembly. The posts of Speaker and Speaker Pro-Tem must be confirmed by the full House on January 11th.

Ralston elected GOP candidate Speaker

The House Republican Caucus has elected Rep. David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) to be the next Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Ralston will face an election before the full house. However, that is little more than a formality.
