Candidates qualify for SD-1 and HD-159

Candidates for SD-1 and HD-159 qualified this week for a special election to fill vacant seats left by legislators hoping to move up the ladder of elected office.
The special election will be held on November 3rd.

New Strategic Vision poll in Dem, GOP primary

Strategic Vision, a Republican-friendly firm, has a new poll out today in the Democratic and Republican primary for Governor. The margin of error is +/- 3 percent. You can view our poll archive here.

Special election dates announced for SD-1, HD-159

As expected, the Secretary of State set the special election date for SD-1, left vacant by Eric Johnson, will take place on November 3rd. Also, the special election for HD-159, which was left vacant by Buddy Carter (R-Pooler), will be held the same day.
Qualifying for these two seats begins next week.

Johnson to resign from State Senate

Just got a phone call from a very reliable source that telling me that Eric Johnson (R-Savannah) is resigning from the State Senate to concentrate on his run for Governor.
This move allows Johnson to raise funds during the 2010 legislation session, where as other state elected officials will not.

The Secretary of State’s office has released the names running in special elections in SD-35 and HD-75. These two seats will be placed on the November 3rd ballot along with HD-58, HD-129 and HD-141.

Revenues down 13.1% in August

Revenue figures for August came out yesterday:
Governor Sonny Perdue announced today that net revenue collections for the month of August 2009 (FY10) totaled $1,052,466,000 compared to $1,259,631,000 for August 2008 (FY09), a decrease of $207,165,000 or 16.4 percent.
The percentage decrease year-to-date for FY10 compared to FY09 is 13.1 percent.

Qualifying for HD-75 will begin next week:
Georgia Secretary of State Karen Handel has announced the qualifying dates for candidates seeking to fill the vacated House District 75 seat, once held by Jonesboro Democrat, Celeste Johnson.
