Perdue: No special session
Gov. Sonny Perdue isn’t going to call a special session to deal with MARTA:
Gov. Sonny Perdue’s staff has met with MARTA officials to try to solve the transit system’s funding problems.
But the governor suggested Tuesday that it was unlikely he would heed MARTA’s call for a special session to deal with transportation issues.
He said “special sessions are something we shy away from. We will do our best not to call a special session.”
MARTA is considering cutting services as it grapples with a $24 million budget shortfall.
The system’s officials asked legislators to pass a bill allowing them to tap into reserves, but lawmakers never approved the changes.
Hold tight for budget news, a special session looking more like a possibility.
