[…] Today was only Day Two of the 149th Session of the Georgia General Assembly, but already there is a bill worthy of my brand new, arbitrarily bestowed, “Stirring the Hopper Award.” Congratulations to House Bill 1, entitled, “Crimes against public health and morals; abortion; provisions,” for garnishing enough attention to win this yet-to-be-coveted honor. Abortion was once illegal is our state. Now, a woman/Doctor can murder an unborn child with impunity, and per the US Supreme Court that’s permissible. Yet a person can neglect/abuse a dog/cat/horse etc, and be penalized.
There was once a time when the sovereign state of Georgia stood up to the Supremes - after Chisholm v Ga (2 Dall. 419, 1793) the state made the attempt to collect the debt a felony punishable by death. The 11th Amendment made that a moot point.
Kudos to Mr. Franklin.
